Ricardo Tanturi y su Orquesta Típica “Los Indios” – Alberto Castillo | 1941-1942

“Los Indios” debutó en 1934 en el Alvear Palace Hotel.
El salto a la popularidad de Tanturi se produjo en 1939, con la incorporación del cantor Alberto Castillo, un verdadero imán para el público.
Alberto Castillo rompió con el modelo del cantor de tango vestido como un gran señor, de riguroso traje oscuro, sobrio y con ademanes mesurados. Con un estilo absolutamente original, con aspectos vinculados al aire cachador (humorístico) y arrabalero, Castillo mostró su capacidad de interpretar temas de lo más diversos merced a una voz con afinación perfecta, magistral en el uso de los matices y la media voz, que podía imprimir a su canto tanto la ternura o dramatismo que requerían algunos como el tono evocador o humorístico para otros. Se adueñaba del escenario desde que llegaba mostrando su pañuelo cayendo del bolsillo derecho del saco cruzado, el cuello de su camisa desabrochado, la corbata floja, su modo de tomar el micrófono e inclinarlo hacia uno y otro lado, su mano derecha junto a la boca, sus ademanes y un modo muy especial de cantar proyectando las vocales.
Durante cuatro años, Tanturi y Castillo compartieron los beneficios de la fama y una aceptación popular inigualble.
La presente edición comprende los primeros diecisiete registros fonográficos entre 1941 y 1942 en forma cronológica y por número de Matriz Original.

Características de la Restauración
Primera Restauración realizada en 80 años a partir de las fuentes originales 78 RPM.
La importancia del uso de fuentes originales para una restauración, especialmente para las grabaciones de tango, radica en la posibilidad de realizar el trabajo de restauración desde el punto más cercano al sonido original. A lo largo de los años, los registros fonográficos del tango, en su gran mayoría, han ido sufriendo deformaciones sonoras, paradojicamente, por el advenimiento de las nuevas posiblilidades tecnológicas y el uso inexperto de las mismas: corrimiento de tono (producto de la reporducción de los fonogramas en medios sonoros
con distinta calibración de velocidad de reporducción) reverberación agregada, falsos
estéreos, compresiones desmedidas que han atentado contra el lenguaje musical y sus matices, arreglos, armónicos de las voces, contracantos internos de la orquesta.
En esta edición: No se han usado filtros ni supresores de ruido. Sonido Mono Original. Sin reverberación agregada. Tracks ordenados cronologicamente por fecha y número de matriz.
Todos los corrimientos de altura han sido reubicados a su afinación original.
Los arreglos orquestales (en especial la línea del contrabajo), y armónicos de la voz del cantante pueden escucharse en balance sonoro con total transparencia y definición por primera vez en 80 años.

Ricardo Tanturi (1905-1973) began his artistic career in 1924 in clubs, charity festivals and, together with his brother, in LOY Radio Nacional, which later became known as Radio Belgrano.
In 1931 or 1933 (sources differ on the date) he formed a sextet baptized “Los Indios” in homage to a polo team, a sport to which he was fond, with which he acted in cinemas and theaters. The orchestra “Los Indios” debuted in 1934 at the Alvear Palace Hotel.
Tanturi’s rise to popularity came in 1939, with the addition of singer Alberto Castillo, a real magnet for the public.
Alberto Castillo broke with the model of the tango singer dressed as a great gentleman in a dark suit, sober and with measured gestures. With an absolutely original style, with aspects linked to the mocking air (humorous) and suburban, Castillo showed his ability to interpret themes of the most diverse thanks to a voice with perfect tuning, masterful in the use of the nuances and the half voice, which could impress upon his singing both the tenderness or dramatism required by some as well as the evocative or humorous tone for others.
He took over the stage from the moment he arrived showing his handkerchief falling out of the right pocket of the crossed bag, the collar of his shirt undone, the loose tie, his way of taking the microphone and tilting it to one side and the other, his right hand by the mouth, his gestures and a very special way of singing projected the vowels.
During four years, Tanturi and Castillo shared the benefits of fame and unparalleled popular acceptance.
The present edition comprises the first seventeen phonograph records between 1941 and 1942 in chronological form and by Original Matrix number.

Restoration Features:
First restoration made in 80 years from the original sources shellac 78 RPM.
The importance of using original sources for a restoration, especially for tango recordings,lies in the possibility of performing the restoration work from the point closest to the original sound. Over the years, the phonographic registers of tango, for the most part, have suffered sound deformations, paradoxically, due to the advent of new technological possibilities and the inexperienced use of them: pitch shift (product of the reporduction of phonograms in sound media with different calibration of velocity of reporducción) added reverberation, false stereos, excessive compressions that have attacked the musical language and its nuances, arrangements, harmonics of the voices, internal contracantos of the orchestra.
In this edition: No filters or denoiser have been used. Original Mono Sound. No reverb added.Tracks sorted chronologically by date and matrix number. All height shifts have been relocated to their original pitch.
The orchestral arrangements (especially the double bass line), and harmonics of the vocals of the singer can be heard in sound balance with total transparency and definition for the first time in 80 years.
